Classic Car Portraits
My current muse is the American icon, the car. I am particularly drawn to the classic cars of the 40s and 50s because of the beautiful styling that was unique to that era of automobiles. These cars have lots of chrome and large body panels, big swooping fenders, bulbous hoods and deck lids and even a period of experimentation with tail fins. It gave these cars a real sense of character. In these paintings I am approaching them like a portrait looking straight at the front of the car at the “eye level” of the car. I want to take the viewer in and see these machines with an affectionate eye to see the “face” of the car, which I think brings forth a new appreciation for these machines and expands the appreciation of cars to a wider audience.
